Dosis Letalis - Just A Cogs In The System [Rapture Records - 2016]Here we have a C30 cassette release from this up & coming Serbian walled-noise project. The release appeared in early August 2016 on French walled noise label Rapture Records- it came in either the form of a tape, or digital download- I’m reviewing the cassette version, which is now sadly sold out. The clear shelled & label-less tape came in a white card slip sleeve- this took in stuck on back & front covers. The front features a squiggly & abstract drawing of lines & circles. And the back cover takes in the releases track listing, web-links etc. Each side of tape features a single 15 minute track, and first up on side A we have "Just A Cog I". This track brings together a few layers of tumbling & circular like noise textures, which of course nicely fits the tracks title. We have a slightly judder & tumbling aquatic low end, & a few layers of thinner ‘n’ crisper mid range. These are seemingly running at very slight different speeds, and this creates this feeling of constant pressing descent- though in reality I think the whole thing is fair set, save for a few shifts in the lower end. Flipping over to side B, and we have "Just A Cog II". This sides wall brings together the following elements: A slightly wavering rolling low-end, A muffled circular judder, and thinner/ finer blanket of pop ‘n’ snapping. Once again all the textures are moving at slightly different speeds, and this time around it creates the feeling that the whole thing constantly slowing- but once again I think the elements here are mostly firm in their setting. Where the first sides track felt quite cog like in its often circular collection of textures- this side feels like the cogs are slow but surely grinding into each other. So in conclusion both sides here are effective & enjoyable in both there textural make-up & subtle wall tricky. Both ‘walls’ work well together and complement each other- yet there’s enough variation between the two as well. Roger Batty
