Trou - Untiltled [Hallucination Tapes - 2016]Untitled is a three inch CDR release from this French walled noise/static texturing project. It offers up a selection of tonally & texturally varied pieces, which have running times between just under a minute to over eight minutes. The release appeared in an edition of 16 copies in September 2016, and as of writing the label still have a few copies left. The plain 3 inch CDR comes mini slip sleeve, which features a bleak & upside down monochrome picture of a crumbling tower, or large chimney. This comes inside a black fabric envelope, that features a single black button fastening First out of the bag we have the track “Roger Moore”- this just over three minute track is thick & constantly flickering blend of rolling low-end, snapping mids, and taut-yet- angular juddering. It’s a nice texturally rewarding & urgent opener- though I'm quite how it relates to the respected & one-time James Bond actor of its title. After this we have the track “)”- and once again this is fairly short affair coming in at just shy of the three min mark. It brings together a tense & flattening roller like texture, with a taut map of smaller snapping ‘n’ popping tones. All to give one the feeling that they are literally going through the wringer. Then we have the shortest track here the 0.45 of "Amanite"-which is tensely flicking yet thick blend of buried-almost- rhythmic knockings, and meaty churnings. And this is followed up by the longest track here “Helio Trou”- it comes in at the 8.14 minute mark, and I guess you’d say this is more static based texturing, instead of wall-noise. It consists of a slowly shifting & stark blend of buzzing ‘n’ throbbing low end churns & their reverberations, slow hacking & stretched roasting rips, and dragged-out low end hits & slowed rips. It feels almost like it could a slowed & overloaded slice of experimental IDM, dragged & pulled out. Finshing off the CDR we have the just over two minutes of "Mrutsleben"- this again it’s quite nervy & active in it’s feel. It brings together chugging & overloaded bass noise buzzing, higher pitching( almost harmonic) forking, ripped jitters, metallic reverberations and big yet wavering beat element. These elements are fed out in a most effective nervy flicking manner, which keeps you on tender hooks, to when the track will come back in again…it’s a great end to the release, though I just wish it could have been a little longer. In conclusion I really enjoyed the inventive & often unpredictable nature of this 3 inch. So if you like your wall noise/ static texturing more experimental, and at times moving towards the rhythmic, then Untitled will be right up your street. I very much look forward to hearing more from this project in the near future. Roger Batty
