Teksti-TV 666 - 1, 2, 3 [Svart Records - 2016]Teksti TV 666 hail form Finland, apparently they employ a wealth of guitars and have only formed 3 years ago. Described as kind of a cross between Neu!, Ramones and shoegazing Hellacopters…my mind was a blur. What the hell will that sound like? More to the point, Why?Finish shoegazing?Christ I’m not looking forward to this. That’s what my mind told me. With the front cover reminding me of an early ‘70’s folk rock album (I’m thinking Free with a hint of distortion). In my head I’m nowhere near the Ramones and certainly a world from Neu! and then the music started...and I’m nowhere near Free (thank god!) I’m catapulted to 1989-90 Sonic Youth and Dinosaur jr. with a slab of early My Bloody Valentine thrown in. I’m still not getting Neu! though, but the Ramones do pop up. This is 12 tracks of pure distortion drenched indie pop music, I can see this sitting happily on Creations roster circa 1991.
You can tell the main instruments are the guitars, they are high in them mix, but the chorused vocals pushed back do ensure the music isn’t overshadowed by the vocals, and given that the vocals are in Finish this gives the songs a somewhat other-worldly aspect.
This is what The Strokes should have sounded like. This is what I wanted from The Libertines. Ok, it’s derivative but its beautifully crafted pop anthems produced to perfection.Don’t expect the worlds most original music, the band are wearing their influences on their sleeves, but enjoy what Teksti-TV 666 do, because they do it extremely well!
