Populous - Queue for Love [Morr / Lowlands - 2005]Morr Music expands! They invade the realms of hiphop and downtempo. And it’s not like it was a good idea. Populous is a young twenty-something Italian called Andrea Mangia. This is his second album, three years after his debut. Queue for love should help him reach a wider audience. Since it benefits from the appearance of Dose One (Themselves, Subtle, Clouddead) and of Jukka from great Italian post-rock / pop band Giardini di Miro. The music in itself should mostly appeal to fan of dull, inoffensive sounds. Imagine a mix of downtempo à la Thievery Corporation (less good that what those guys were doing more than five years ago) and trendy soft-hop for BoBo’s à la Prefuse73. Oh yeah, everything sounds nice and smiley and there is spring in the air and blabla. In itself, it’s nice to have some cool and quiet album to enjoy nice spring afternoons, but, please, you can spare yourself the grief of having to listen to such dated and retrograde music. Even cool lounge cafés wouldn’t dare to play this to their customer. François Monti
