Murcof - Remembranza [Leaf - 2005]Murcof’s Remembranza shudders through out with cinematic beat scapes. Which are both lush and hypnotic. It’s a wonderful and continually reward album, which will certainly make my best of the year list. Recuerdos opens up the album with ominous slowly played piano tones, cut by jittering beats. Conjuring up walk a through city streets, in the early hours of the mourning. You can almost see your breath, as you do up your coat . The is moon glinting on smeared car bonnets. you hear hushed voices, coming from behind misted apartment building windows. Rostro starts off with wonderful and melancholy piano pitter-patter. This is joined by a wintry beat structure, and then a lush cello sound. which is woven by more electronics to captivating effect. It feels like walking through a park on a winters mourning, as the sun is coming up. Rios comes off like John Barry set to beats. Heady with strings, embellished by piano tinkling. It really seems to bring to mind a spy/action movie. Where all seems lost for our hero, as you see the scale of the baddies vast underground bunker. There’s lots of drifting shots of large missiles and men amassing ready to take over the world. With out doubt of interest to anyone, who enjoyed Ulver in their more soundtrack form. Or Autechre at their most atmospherically striped down. A prime piece of audio for your own interior film.
