Lisa Germano - In the Maybe world [Young God - 2006]In the maybe world is Lisa Germano’s first release on Michael Gira’s Young God label, though she has released several albums through Capitol and 4AD.Young God records seems the perfect home for her material, that mixers honest, heart felt lyrics that move through heart break and dream worlds. But often she has a steel hand in a silken glove, tendency to her songs, slipping out some bitter truths with her soothing tone. The musical side is a wonderful mixed of laid back smudged piano melodies, lightly hazed guitar and touches of Melancholy childhood, run down carnival sadness. It’s nice to see a female singer/ song writer who's making enjoyable, tuneful piano and guitar music that isn’t trying for bland pop. She Also mangers to twist in avant grade and off kilter touches with such an airy grace. The album seems feather light the first few plays, but each replay it pulls you in further, and further into it’s layered world that hovers between folk strum, sing song piano strolls, muffled beats, and some hazy audio background instrumentation . I can’t remember enjoyed this type of thing, in a very long time, I guess it because it’s so well done. All in all an enchanting, rewarding, and beautiful sketched album. Roger Batty
