Popol Vuh - Cobra Verde OST [SPV - 2006]This is a welcome reissue of Popol Vuh’s soundtrack for the Werner Herzog Film Cobra Verde. It’s a breath taking mix of panoramic snthy dronescapes, chanted African voices, strummed folk guitar lushness. Simply some of the most beautiful music your likely to hear. All of it dwelling in aching feelings of loss, and disappointment. Cobra Verde was the last collaboration between director Werner Herzog and often off the rails genies actor Klaus Kinski. It tells the tale of Cobra Verde the bandit played by Kinski who is sent to his death in slave time African, but who mangers to survive and gain respect. The film through out has such a feeling of been lost, even though the protagonist is always pushing forwards. Popol Vuh really has managed to paint the seething heat of African and endless plains in such tranquil melancholy beauty. That’s not to say all here is tinged with melconcholy, Die singeden, Mädchen von ho,Ziavi is just African chanting with basic percussion, its makes for a captivating cerebratry piece, showing how beautiful the human voice is. Really a must have item for those interested in ambient, high quality haunting instrumental music, from one of the pioneers of experimental electronic music, truly life changing stuff. This is just the tip of the iceberg SPV have recently reissued the whole Popol Vuh Catalogue, each with bonus tracks.
