Tomas Carnacki - Far Voyage From A Placid Island [Aletiometer Records - 2006]Far voyage from a placid island is a mix of sinister and pentrating drones and often darkly surreal horse play. Making you unsure whether you should be distrubed/ creeped out or chuckling long and darkly to ones self, While this unfolds it's sonic treasure Through out the four mainly long tracks Thomas Carnacki and his surreal sea fairing companions whom include: Jesse Quattro, Jesse Burson and Jon Brumit, cover a lot of thematic and sound ground. Going from the Meditative/mysterious night droning tones with haunted house soundtrack trappings, plus weird wood like clunking of through the night around me falling. To the weathered crackles and eerier old time children songs loops via shifting continents of drone craft of Cornucopic Apocalypse. It really gives the feeling of nursery rhyme massacre or childhood distortion into demented monster. Later it drifts into creepy unfolding brass shapes and odd /frozen desert woodwind throb, that is suddenly lowered into rich water running tones, before drifting off into killer-breathing-down- your- neck dread, via shifting sands of almost ethnic drone dunes. With out doubt of interest to those who enjoy Surreal sound worlds of the likes of Nurse with Wound or Irr.App.(Ext) (both of whom Carnacki has work with). But which offers up it’s own unequal & dark haunted plans take on the craft of sinister surrealism and dense ambient sound worlds. To find out more about the project & Carnacki's other work go to here Roger Batty
