Cloama /Gelsomina - The Duellists [Musically Incorrect Records - 2007]This collaboration between Cloama & Gelsomina perfectly balances muilt-layered noise craft with rich droning and melodic moments. Making noise compositions that are both engulfing & somehow haunted and mesmerizing too. This is the first time I’ve heard anything by Cloama, but I’m familiar with Gelsomina from last years excellent Nostalgia. What you get here is four tracks of densely packed, many layered noise that in it’s self is impressive, but added to that you get these wonderful and rich broken melodic elements. Coming off Like abused classical music, haunted and eerier soundtrack elements, droning ambient hazes just floating bellow like the noise surface like beautiful ,melancholy and enchanted phantoms. Really giving noise an emotional depth that is rarely seen and it’s all done with such understand of how each sound and layer works together to make a devastating and often beautiful whole. It will suck you back again and again to mine its considerable depths of sound and texture, Reveling in its ornate and broken down elegance, like the run down grandeur of a decaying vast mansion Gelsomina really seem to be carving their only individual and haunted take on noise and Cloama seems a very capable collrabrator, whose name I'll look out for in future. Sadly this is ltd to only 300, so I advise you to act fast and pop along to here. Roger Batty
