Mike Tamburo - Dance Enis Dance [Barl Fire Recordings - 2007]Dance Enis Dance was original conceived as a piece that could be heard and felt, the idea for piece came about because it’s creator Mike Tamburo is slowly going deaf. With a mixture of Acoustic guitar, amplifier, Tibetan bowls, chromatic harmonica, hammer dulcimer, etc, Tamburo has managed to create a long form piece that’s covers a lot of territory over it’s half an hour running time. From droning autumnal like mantras, to shimmering feedback haze, to elegant folky finger picked elements and odd psychedelic/ rhythmic soundwork. For much of the tracks life it hovers in an earthy feeling of loss, it feels born of melancholy natural spirit, a calm expectance of decay and weather worness, humming of rich woodland and overgrown field resonance that's touched by a deep emotional understanding. Making a piece that cross the paths of folk, country, drone music, avant rock distortion hazes and psychedelic soundworlds. I guess it could be the soundtrack to getting slowly lost in rolling hills and deep dank forest. Over time your mind starts to hallucinate from strange coloured pollen that floats through the avenues of trees and tangles of undergrowth. The CDR come in a nice full colour cover with a rather apt close up picture of a rusting door, with fold out liner notes detailing the pieces origins and Tamburo's approaching deafness. Sadly it's only limited to a 100, which is a pity as more people need to hear this accomplished and atmospheric piece of sound work. To find out more and buy direct go to here Roger Batty
