Liholesie - Videniya [Stygian Crypt Productions - 2007]Videniya (The Visions) takes you soaring over vast forests, down deep dark green valleys and falling through nature engulfed ruins , It feels like the soundtrack to when nature has taking it’s planet back and few humans roam the landscape, where animals graze undisturbed and natural spirits roam the woodland glades and the tallest evergreens. It’s a mixture of earthy electronica/ synth scapes that soar and ebb ,Neo folk, slight new- ageness (but never too overbear or camp) and sampled natural sounds. All the tracks are vocaless and instrumental, with a mix of sparklering brook to darker moss hued synth work, drums- electronic and otherwise, acoustic guitar and the odd more exotic and woodland bound folk instruments weaved in here and there. Along with the sounds of bird song, rushing water and woodland crunch aptly mixed in never become too overbearing or tacky. It has a very retro feeling sounding quite grounded in the late 70’s to early 80’s, with some more updated almost ance beats sneaking in here and there, but these are far an few between and don’t really sit well with the rest of the albums vibe. In places it also brought to mind most some of Burzum's more keyboard soaked moments but with a little more musical depth to them, it has that same earthy and often dark timeless wonder to it, but this is also triumphant and tuneful. It all comes in a rather fitting all green and woodland imagery filled 8 panel Digipak. It's an enjoyable and memorable album that whisks it’s listerner off to another time away from city scapes into endless green and the forest mysterious and beautiful calls.
