Various artists - Wilde Jaeger (extra disk & box) [Percht/ Ahnstern - 2008]here)- the beautiful green stained hand made wooden box fitting the original two disks set inside." /> | This is an extra disk of material and wooden box set that’s an add-on to the excellent original Wilde Jaeger compilation(reviewed here)- the beautiful green stained hand made wooden box fitting the original two disks set inside. The new 3inch disk sits in a wooden draw inside the box with yellow text on the draws back matching the front of the box forest print and really makes the already special Wilde Jaeger complation into a extremely distinctive item. The disk features another 20 minutes of new/unreleased material from the Austrian Percht/ Ahnstern label. We have seven tracks in all – following on & adding nicely to the mix of folk, prog, ritual, sound art, electronica, traditional Alpine music, Black metal, ambience and field recordings found on the original set. Through with possible a more sounds cape feel about them all. All of the tracks are great and consistent with the rest of the set, but a few key moments for me come in the form of the opening track Carnevale Invernale by Fanes & Tyrsson which mixers a slow sombre and droning alpine march of strings and ritual drums with cowbells and eerier electronic textures. Or Mittagsscharte by Werkram which conjures up a dense a bubbling world of neo classical strings, drone textures, aquatic sounds, voices etc all giving the feeling a grand deep green forest city world that lies in a subterranean carven away from praying human eyes. A breath taking box and great extra 20 minutes of music- really if you already have the Wilde Jaeger disks this is a must. And if you’ve still to pick up the excellent original, buy this along with the original disks- To make an already superb set in something very special indeed. Roger Batty
