DJ Scotch Egg - Drumized [Load Records - 2008]With Drumized DJ Scotch Egg takes you on another manic ride into a mixture of gabba, happy day glow electronica, happy hardcore, game boy tones and bizarre samples. Taking in 16 tracks in 26 minutes this is manic, speedy and total off-the-hook ride. His last album Scotch Hausen was as the title suggests took influence from Stockhausen, Bach and other classical modern and otherwise composers into his manic day glow electro world. Drumized finds him taking influence from old trad jazz, earache era gabba and mobile phone ring tones. And this is as manic as Scotch Hausen and while it's all very enjoyable it’s more controlled and longer tracks like scotch jazz were he mixers jazz bass lines, pilled up drums, screaming sax and phone ring tones. Or the last track Ummm with it’s locked spring has started orchestra shimmer, cymbal crash and the 'keep threating to go all gabba on you' air but never does- that are the more memorable and ultimate rewarding moments here. Special mention must be given to the artwork which on the outside is rather standard black and white but inside we’ve got wonderfully deranged and colourful humanoid figures made up of random body parts and game boys, with the cd face continuing with the manic colour range too. All in all another consistent if manic album from DJ Scotch Egg which also shows moments of real growth and more focused composition too. Roger Batty
