Taylor Deupree - Northern(08 version) [12K - 2008]This is a sort of deluxe directors-cut reissue of Taylor Deupree's now out of print electro-organic ambient master piece Northern from 2006. Through nothing major has been done to the tracks, it’s a great to have this back in print once more. I originally reviewed the album when it came out in 06 and you can find my original review just here. But for those already familiar with the album, I’ll go through the changers with this edition; first off the digit-pak has been replaced by a mini gatefold with nice, classy yet simply text embossing over a new image of snow bound forest scape. Inside you find a new 24 four page booklet taking in Deupree's pictures of snow bond land scapes. So on to the music; the tracks have the same running order as before with just a few miner sonic adjustments and a few seconds added and cut away to a few tracks, with in the end the album running just under a minute from the original version. The other thing that’s been done here is Deupree has remastered the album in the analog domain to given the work a new found sense of delicacy, detail and great audio comfort- you can really snuggle into it’s tones and sonic shapes with the odd shaper edgers from the original mix all but gone. They say cant’ beat perfection but that’s exactly what Depree has done with this remastering, sonic polishing of this classical and gorgeous album. Roger Batty
