Hush Harbours - Self Titled [Ecstatic Peace - 2008]Hush Harbours mine a mixture of America 70’s country rock with psychedelic folk touches and slight grungy edger’s. With the lead singer Keith Wood voice sounding like Neil young after a bad night or a stoned and wavering Michael Nesmith The tracks go from shambling sort of hazy ‘n’ fuzzed 70’s rock grooves to more country folky strumming that switch’s between electric and acoustic guitars, all the way down to haunted strum and picks. But for the most part it’s fairly upbeat and often fuzzed with lite feedback as Keith Wood shambles and stumbles over the top with his vocals. Through –out the album's life it takes liberally from various 70’s band’s with alot of Mr Young’s work coming to mind both solo and with others, but it’s done with such great swagger and shambling tuneful grace that it mangers to (just about) stand up on it’s own two legs. A long way from earth shattering original or particular inventive, but it does mange to smoke up a rather nice retro vibe with the songs for the most part being memorable and atmospheric. Roger Batty
