Jack Halter / I Am A Slut - Hang'em High Slut [Zvukovina - 2010]

This is a two way split between two new & relatively unknown Polish based HNW projects in the shape of Jake Halter(also in Kill The Liver & A.D. III KAL. OCT ) & I’m A slut(also in more know Selymes Viragszirom  & Self-Inflicted Violence).

Up first we have the Jake Halter track which is entitled ‘Kill Them’ and comes in at just under the twenty two minute mark. The track starts out with a few seconds of dramatic bell tolling like film soundtrack sample & a male voice saying “Hang them” then your pushed out into the thick, speaker blowing & feasting harsh noise wall. This wall is built around two main tones;  firstly we have a rapid looped, lower & at times bass drilling drone &  secondly there's a locked static jitter that’s built around two or three tone repetitions.  Jake Halter interweaves these two elements into a bleak, hope sucking 'Wall' that’s fairly active in it’s loops cycles but doesn’t really move or shift in any major way through-out it’s running time. It’s a good example of nihilistic 'wall' making, through it rather lacks the addictive & hypnotic qualities that would make me return to this often.

Track two is of course the I’m A Slut track which is entitled ‘They Must Die’ and this comes in at the seventeen minute mark & is my favourite of the two tracks. The track is a mixture of a mid-pace long juddering & muffled tone- that’s seared by a more active stop start static jitter that goes from chips, short darts onto sudden dense tone rolls & crunched higher or harmonic splitters of judder. The track really sucks you in nice & deep to its interlocking noise patterns keeping you tangled & locked in the seared but rewarding noise prison for the tracks full length. Like the first track it’s still damn thick & unforgiving in it’s wall of sound, but there just the more movement & rewarding sonic detail in the track which is why this is my pick of the pair.

So in summing another worthwhile release from the excellent HNW only label Zvukovina with Jake Halter offering up a slice of nasty ‘n’ nihilistic if not very memorable wall making & I’m A Slut giving you a thick, detailed & ultimately very hypotonic ‘wall’.
