Jason Kahn/Richard Francis - Untitled [Monochrome Vision - 2009]“Untitled” is a greyed, taut, insect buzzing and stark white florescent tube throbbing drone ‘n’ slow motion electro collaboration between the highly respected percussionist, & electro improviser Jason Kahn and New Zeland based sound artists and bleak electro sound-scaper Richard Francis. The album finds the pair offering up four untitled tracks that fall between just under the ten minute mark to just over the sixteen minute mark a piece. Kahn handles precussion and analogue synth, with Francis taking on computer and electronics. Each track here offers up a very bleak and often tense sonic study in uneasy and decaying tone. The tracks are built around: stale aired & slow moving drone textures, subtle, muffled and building banks of jittering static, creepy and harmonically souring electro loops that hint at decay and uneasy, wavering and crawling banks of percussive dwell, and all manner of slow, unwell and uneasy sonic dwell. All the tracks here seem to have a very sickly yet organic feel to them, as they slowly flick, feast and ebb along there grim ways. All told this is a very rewarding, yet deeply stark and uneasy collaboration between Kahn and Francis. For those who enjoy slow-moving, ill-at-easy and grim sound scaping.
