Shizoey - Lineaments [World In Sound - 2010]Fairly straight down the line heavy rock album from Shizoey who hail from Austria. This is their first album and it immediately strikes you as a collection of songs by a band trying to work out what direction they want their music to go in. I’d imagine the songs have been written over a reasonably long period of time between them forming and rehearsing and gigging and getting a deal and releasing this. So you have a number of different styles sitting side by side on the one album.
The basic underlying theme is heavy rock but whereas one song might sound like something the likes of Nickelback might do.The next one will owe more to sound of the Rollins Band or Black Sabbath.
It’s well recorded, I like how natural the drums sound and the guitarist can obviously play but overall it’s not the sort of thing I would tend to pick up and listen to very often but if you’re a fan of Grunge or Hardcore you might find the odd track here to enjoy.
If Shizoey can decide whether they want to be either Black Flag or Black Sabbath and then go and record another album they might just be worth another listen.
