The Flying Eyes - Self Titled [World In Sound - 2010]Behind this Baltimore based Psychedelic, Blues & Rock band are Adam Bufano, Mac Hewitt, Will Kelly and Elias Mays Schutzman. This self titled effort brings together the bands two E.Ps, 'Bad Blood' and 'Winter' which were originally released back in late 2009. The album opens with 'Lay with me', where The Flying Eyes seem perfectly acquainted with seventies rock, sounding like a part of the rock n' roll and psych scene from that era. The distorted rhythm guitars, rich bass and the wild drums are being the perfect energetic background for the powerful, Morrison-like voice of the singer. With this song, the Flying Eyes immediately prove themselves to be highly energetic and theatrical band, and their presence grows even more on the second song, called "Better Things", with the addition of Hewitt's backing vocals to Kelly's lead singing, giving the song much more emotional depth. "Don't point your God at me" keeps this line of music, and adds a great bass rhythm that brings to mind Black Sabbath and their followers. This might give a hint about what the rest of the album holds for us, as the Flying Eyes turn a little to the dark side as we move to the second part of this album. "We are not alone" and "Red Sheets" are a little slower and with a darker groove, and The Flying Eyes seem to develop this attitude more with the next tracks. On the song "Around the bend" their music sounds much more painful and emotional, making this particular song stand out from the rest of the album. Overall, the two E.Ps justify their titles. 'Bad blood' is wild and raw, while 'Winter' is darker and a somewhat colder. The Flying Eyes use rich sound and offer a full glimpse into their passionate world of rock n' roll. Something tells me that their live shows are even more passionate and emotional.
