I Dreamt Of Her Beautiful Tentacles - No Genuine Memories [Pigdurt Productions - 2010]This three inch CDR finds this Danish HNW project offering up two slices of seared and brutal improv guitar texturing mixed with grating lo-fi walls of noise textures. It brings to mind the kind of thing Merzbow does when he’s in his more manic guitar shredding form. Actually I’m not sure you can still call these two tracks HNW really.... sure there are shifting and grating wall like masses of sound here, but both tracks main focus is the searing, twiddling and chaotic mass of guitar tone, and the spacey electro noise texturing which again quite brings to mind Merzbow, but in his more violent ‘n’ seared psychedelic form; or maybe even Acid Mouther Temple at their most intense. The first untitled track comes in at just over the nine minute mark and it finds a shredding and extremely loud mixture of : waling, boiling and seared guitar texture, that’s a mixture of manic improv and the odd hint of melted rock soloing. chugging and billowing clouds of static ‘n’ sustain noise matter, and the whole things topped off with arching, at times almost harmonic seared and atmospheric slow moving slices of guitar texturing. The second untitled track is longer of the two, and it has a more spacey yet violent psychedelic feel to it. The tracks built around swirling and melting spacey noise tones, seesawing ‘n’ slowly shredding guitar texturing, and slowly shifting noise texturing. There’s a lso a greater and keener atmospheric feel on this track too with a lot of the tones have quite a creepy yet sinister sci-fi feel to them. And towards the end it almost drops in seared yet ambient guitar texturing. So this is an rewarding enough 3inch split which sees this project trying a more improv ‘n’ seared guitar based take on noise making. Just don’t expect this to be HNW, because this really has only fleeting connection to the genre. Roger Batty
