Chloë - Untitled [self release - 2011]Chloë is a new dense, battering and slightly sleazy HNW project that brings together two of the most respected names in Swedish 'wall making'- Karl T of projects Skönhet & Självhat, and he also runs cult HNW tape label HarshFuckedForLife Records thats are known for it's large and elaborate tape boxsets. And the other member of this new project is Hannes H whose one half of highly respected, macabre & brutal long running HNW project Concrete Threat. This new project takes it’s name & theme from an rather unhealthy interest/obsession with up & coming Us teen actress Chloë Grace Moretz whose appeared in cult moives such as Violent comic book picture "Kick Ass" & pre teen vampire movie "Let Me In". This first release comes in the form of a C14 tape, and it came in a edition of just 14 copies…why the obsession for the number 14?, well it’s to celebrate Ms Moretz 14th birthday…see what a mean by unhealthy!. Anyway enough batter about the projects theme/name. let’s get down to ‘walls’ inside. On offer here are two tracks; one on each side of tape, and each track starts with a short interview or audio sample from Ms Moretz. The first sides track is entitled “Killing…” and after it’s sample it dives head first into a slow to mid paced ‘wall’ of very thick ‘n’ unrelenting muddy bass lined noise battering that’s weaved with shorter & more detailed locked judderings. All told it’s an overwhelming and suffocating just over five minute track that feels like a nice mixture of Concrete Threat's thick battering ‘n’ blood drenched ‘walls’ & Skönhet more detailed & almost glitch bound take on 'wall-making'. Over onto side two & we have the 5.07 of “….For Blood” which brings together thick & claustrophobic noise bass descending with semi caught & glitch bound textural judders. This is my favourite of the two tracks here as it has such an oppressive, and great closing in feeling about it. Again the tracks a nice mixture of both parties sounds- it’s just a pity it’s all over so fast….I could easily have listened to this ‘wall’ for another twenty minutes or so. All told this is a small, but extremely worthy opening shot from this new collaboration, that brings togeather two of the great minds behind the Swedish/ European HNW scene. It’s only let down by the insanely ltd edition, which is now long out of print, and the shortness of the tracks…but I guess it’s better to left wanting more than wising you had less. I very much look forward to seeing what this project does next!. Roger Batty
