Anonymous - Tarawa [Sweet Solitude - 2011]“Tarawa” is the second release from the highly mysterious, fixed & seared HNW project Anonymous. The project themes all of it’s releases around WWII battles & atrocities. This new three cdr set is themed around the Battle of Tarawa- this took place between November 20 to November 23, 1943 on the tiny pacific island of Betio. Between 4000 to 5000 Japanese troops & a 1000 US troops died in the short battle. The images from the battle & the huge death rate, changed the US perception of War at home forever. The three CDR’s come in a 3 disc DVD box, and the outside of the box features a picture taken of the battle. Inside along with the three discs is an single A5 thin grey card, and this outlines the battles history & it’s outcome. Each disc here features a single unchanging & unmoving ‘wall’ of thick ‘n’ brutal walled noise, & each disc/ ‘wall’ is meant to represent one day of war. First up on disc one we have “Day 1: November 20th - November 21st 1943”, and this ‘wall’ features an dense & face melting mixture of roasting, jittering & searing noise tone. The ‘wall’ is I guess mid-paced to fast, and the descending lines of uniformed jittering work well with the continually rotating scorching roasts ‘n’ sears- one can almost imaging bullets & shells sheering through & obliterating masses of human life as the ‘wall’ rages around you. Disc two’s ‘wall’ is entitled “Day 2: November 21st - November 22nd 1943”, and this is built around a extreme nasty & hearing slicing mixture of continual huge stream like hissing that’s underfed by a distant billowing & odd muffled tapping of bomb like back drones. It feels like your continual descending in a mass of supper heated steam, and somewhere off in distant there's repetitive bombing patterns & cruel wind ebbs 'n' roasts. This is very nasty & un-escapable slice of fixed HNW. Disc three’s ‘wall’ is entitled “Day 3: November 22nd - November 23rd 1943”, and this is built around a very meaty & machine churning like juddering ‘n’ roaring noise textures. This track brings to mind masses of tanks tearing up huge mounds of earth & twitched mud splattered human bodies. After the nasty & extreme ‘wall’ from disc two to start with this track seems a little less battering & intense, but give it a few minutes & your find your head been nicely battered, crushed & bombarded by this ‘wall’. So another effective slice of war bound walled noise. All told this is a nicely put together set that has a very bleak & bloody theme. All three of the walls are very worthwhile slice of dense, fixed & war roasted HNW, and I look forward to hearing what this mysterious project does next. Roger Batty
