Inanition - Antonym [Toxic Industries/Irritant Series - 2011] | Inanition is a mysterious & anonymous project that summon up a mixture of damned drone based walled noise & horror sci-fi singed ‘n’ slow harsh noise texturing. The project conists of possible three or more noise makers that come from both the states & Europe. ‘Antonym’ is the project 6th release, and the project have been putting out material since 2009. This release comes in the form of a CDR that features a single 79 minute track of thick, doomed & horror filled droning walled noise, which has some effective slowly sliding layers of noise texture & b movie horror/ sci-fi edges running through it. The track starts with some cut-up samples from a horror movie…we have a female character saying “The floor is giving way & we’ve got to find her”, and then the sounds of some sort of power tool contacting with human limbs as a man screams. We then drift into 2 minutes worth of lo-fi b movie synth sustain sound tracking that undercut by male and female screaming to panicked voices. At just after the two an a half minute mark we slide into a droning, blunt & lo-fi wall of noise which mixers together billowing, buffeting and dry juddering noise matter- this is played over by a very thin & mostly unheard skipping static texture. As the track progresses the weathered, creepy and brutal vibe increasers with subtle shifts taking places in the tracks textured plates of judder, billow & buffet. Also there are new droning drifts of harsh noise textures that subtle ebb & bob over the ‘walls’ droning sonic fabric- these slowly but surely change the textural ebb & flow of the ‘wall’ as it goes on. At times these drifts become quite aggressive, persistent & sometimes muilt layered, yet the ‘wall’ never fully breaks from it’s thick & macabre vibe. Through it does thin down once towards the end of the track just before the beginning screaming & analogue synth sweeps appear for the last minute or so. The track ends with a theatrical bang which again sounds like it’s sampled from some horror or sci-fi b movie. All told ‘Antonym’ is certainly an original, seared & sinister mix of Walled noise & swirling/ shifting mostly drone based harsh noise. Of interest to those who enjoy a subtle & not too active mix of HNW & harsh noise. Roger Batty
