Lea Cummings - Escape From Gravity [Kovorox Sound - 2011]Lea Cummings is a very eclectic noise musician based in Glasgow, best known for his noise work as Kylie Minoise. "Escape From Gravity" CDr, is released on his own Kovorox Sound label, it features a single one-hour long track; an elongated, mild synth drone with few delicate variations and additions. The sound itself is very spacey, sci-fi and a bit "oriental". In fact the slowly pulsating flow of the drone reminds me of "None Friendly" by The Gerogerigegege. I wonder why, no matter what I’m reviewing, I always end up talking about The Gerogerigegege. Ah, the mysteries of life. I think the only way to appreciate this kind of stuff is either as background music, or in complete stillness, relaxation and silence. At the same time, it can either easily bore the shit out of you, or become your favorite soundtrack for many days. "Escape From Gravity" is not exceptional or groundbreaking, but if taken for what it is, it's well done and coherent. The sound is simple yet the very nature of it reveals subtle harmonics to a careful listener. Sometimes it's good to drown into this kind of experience, but personally I'd rather take mr.Cummings more noisy outputs over this any day. I know there's an audience for his "Escape To Gravity", though. The extremely minimal white CDr is housed in a pvc sleeve with black and white computer-printed art, and I don't think this is a limited edition. Given its nature, my judgement on this record can't be positive or negative. It is what it is: a hour long drone. Take it or leave it. Clearly this is not for everyone, so I recommend it only to people who like relaxing and immersive music. Nicola Vinciguerra
