Dead Body Collection/Ghost - Whore of Babylon [Self Release - 2012]“Whore of Babylon” is an ANW/ HNW collaboration between Serbian based Dead Body Collection & French based project Ghost. The release comes in the form of a double CDR set- this features two slices of ANW on disc one, and one long slice of more brutal HNW on the second disk. The Whore of Babylon or "Babylon the Great" is a Christian figure of great evil that appears in the Book of Revelations in the bible. The two CDR’s come in a double DVD case, and this features a red paper cover which features a medieval looking drawing of the Whore Of Babylon sitting abreast a seven headed beast. The release also includes a double sided red paper inlay card that features on one side another drawing/ print of the Whore, and on the other side the track listing/ detail. First up on disc one we have a Dead Body Collection track, and this is entitled rather lengthily entitled “I Will Shew Unto Thee The Judgment Of The Great Whore That Sitteth Upon Many Waters”. The track comes in at 30.20 mark, and it finds DBC offering up a fairly uncharacteristically striped yet taut slice of ANW. The track is built around a thin-ish yet meaty locked juddering tone, and weaved through out this are these smaller jittering tonalities that have a mixture of crisp electro haze about them. All told it’s a nicely encasing & Moorish slice of ANW. Next up we have Ghost’s track, and this is entitled “And I Saw A Woman Sit Upon A Scarlet Coloured Beast, Full Of Names Of Blasphemy, Having Seven Heads And Ten Horns”. This tracks comes in at spot on the thirty minute mark, and it’s finds this French project offering a fairly bleakly churning slice of ANW. The tracks built around a locked jittering roast, which is under fed by a constant flow of rumbling mid paced noise. Once again it’s another effective slice of ambient based wall making, and there is certainly a feeling of locked external brimstone & damnation about the whole track. Over onto disc two, and we have a collaboration between the DBC & Ghost in the form of “Babylon The Great Is Fallen, Is Fallen, And Is Become The Habitation Of Devils”. This takes up the whole of disc two with a run time just shy of the one hour mar. The ‘walls’ built around a mid paced mixture of rumbling mid range white-out, which is under cut & shadowed by a jittering static texture. These two elements are locked together into a seared yet oddly soothing bound that nicely batters away at you over it’s hour running time. Again it’s another very worthwhile track. So to sum up “Whore of Babylon” gives you two effective slices of ANW, and one brutal & rewarding slice of HNW, plus the great theme makes this one very worthy release. Roger Batty
