Gluttoness - Keep Me Warm In The Winter… Give Me Shade In The S [Vagary Records - 2012]“Keep Me Warm In The Winter… Give Me Shade In The Summer” is a four track CDR that offers up a selection of varied & creative walled noise, which goes from HNW to more soothing ANW runs, and even touches down in doom metal territory towards the end of the release. Gluttoness is a Fairfax USA based HNW project that’s been active since 2011, & over the projects 13 or so releases it’s sound has gone from & mixed together: HNW, Harsh noise, ANW/ progressive HNW, and subtle power electronics/ vocal textures. Pretty much all of this projects releases are themed a love/passion for large women, BBW’s or plumper’s. And this release follows the same sort of themes again- the slip sleeve cover is taken up by the body of a laying down larger lady. The release came in two separate editions- one normal edition (of ten copies) and one edition inside a pink knitted cd warmer!(of five copies). First up we have “Will You?”, which offers up just under five minute worth of quite active thumbed/ rumbled based organic sounding walled noise that are under fed by eerier clanging slay bell like texture. Next is “Keep Me Warm In The Winter”, and this just under eighteen & a half minute track is a built around a slowly lulling mass of tumbling, soothingly & juddering based ANW- this slow but surely slows down over it’s run-time. The track slow envelops deeper & deeper in this tumbling/ aquatic rumbling texture that at times has an almost subtle rubbing flesh like feel to it, which I guess perfectly fits the BBW theme of the project. Track three is entitled “Give Me Shade In The Summer”, and this just under fourteen & a half minute track. And this track moves more towards HNW territory, though of a fairly thin/split texture variety- it’s a two level textured ‘wall’ which has to the back of it's sound picture a rumbling/churning locked noise texture, and to the front of the sound picture is a more crackling/ crunching ‘wall’ texture. The ‘wall’ has quite a lose ‘n’ lazy feel to it, and I guess you could say it border on ANW/ progressive walled noise at times. At around the nine minute a tolling & building slow doom guitar riff can be heard coming out of the ‘wall’ which is most effective as the ‘wall’ thins back before we kick into slow sluggish & muffled doom riff bound chug ‘n’ dart. Lastly we have “You Will”, and this just over eight minute track starts out with a fairly organic/acoustic wall noise mix of rumbling/ thumbing noise which is underfed by a metallic stirring & scuttling. Pretty soon this sort of baying & snorting giant lizard/ sea creature monster element is added on to the top to create this very odd, noisy yet quite surreal track, before in it’s last minutes we have a brief break of silence before drifting into slashing 'n' tinkling psychedelic dowse rock that has this weird tolling bell & warbling aquatic piano done running through it. All told this is another most satisfying and rewarding release form this project, and it's great to hear the doom/ psychedelic drowsy rock elements mixed in here too…let’s hope future Gluttoness releases see deeper journeys into mixing other more musical genres with the walled noise form.
