Anonymous Masturbaudioum - Nylon Obsession [Palinopsia Recordings - 2015]Here we have a c30 release from Anonymous Masturbaudioum- an Italian based HNW/ Harsh noise project that themes all of its releases around Feet and Legs/ Nylon Stockings fetish. This project started in 2015- so it’s another fairly recent addition to the euro scene, though it’s already got coming on for ten releases under its belt- taking in CDR’s, tapes, MP3 albums, and splits. This release appears on Australian noise label Palinopsia Recordings. The clear cased tape features a red metallic inner label, and this comes in a pro printed/ double sided black & white sleeve that takes in pictures of female stocking covered legs, and women putting on mascara. All in all a nice pro look release!. The first side takes in two shorter tracks, and these come in the shape of “Die Schwarze Naht Teil 1 & 2” ( which translates to The Black Seam Parts 1 & 2). Each of these tracks comes in at around the seven to seven & a half minute mark. “Part 1”, opens up been built around a rolling & long gong drone/ rumble, and this is underpinned by field recording of rushing water. As the track progress we get a shifting mix of juddering ‘n’ hacking noise textures, drilling gong like textures, tick ‘n’ tapping noise making, sustained harsh noise/ synth drones, moody dense drone billow sweeps, and the odd moment of bare stripped back field recordings of rushing water. “Part 2” opens with this subdued & distant looped organ texture, and this is surrounded by a selection of water field recording- taking in rushers of large masses of water, to more intimate tricking. As the track moves onto its second minute you get a growing wall of roasting noise matter added to the proceedings, along with slow-mo feed back stretches & buried metallic junk hits. I guess you’d say of the two tracks this second track has more ‘wall’ like elements to it- but I’d still say you would classify it as moody experimental drone meets harsh noise with wall elements. Flipping over to the second side, and we have just a single track, and this comes in the form of “Untitled (Mascara)”- which comes in at just shy of the 15 minute mark. After the more moody & stripped back feel of the first side tracks, this sides track is much thicker, dense & searing. After a few shifts in it’s textural mass things settle down into more firm ‘wall’ territory - with a layered mixture of taut & galloping meat juddering, buried insect like scuttles, and stretched out feed back points/ eerier billowing- as the track progress you get nice (and mostly fairly subtle) shifts in the ‘wall’ & the underneath elements. I’d say this side is more wall, with hints of moody & stretched harsh noise/ buried electro texturing. All in all this is C30 is an effective mix of moody harsh noise, walled noise, and eerier drone/electro elements. This is my first taster of this projects work, and I look forward to hearing more in the near future. This release is for those looking for a more progressive take on walled noise. Roger Batty
