Facez Of Death 2000 - Dead In Asia [Unbelievable Black Magic - 2016]Facez Of Death 2000 is a new Mondo/death film themed walled-noise project from Thailand. It’s both the projects first release, and the first HNW release on the Unbelievable Black Magic label- which began life as bootleg VCD label releasing Mondo and Shockumentary films from Japan and the US. The CDR release comes in quite a distinctive bit of packaging- a seven inch shelve, with a full colour cover & a black ‘n’ white back cover. The front takes in a reproduction of the cover artwork from 1996 Mondo film Faces Of Death 2000- Death In Asia. And the back cover takes in the labels logo. You also get single side colour postcard- feature a picture of skulls, overlaid with the projects title. Behind the Facez Of Death 2000 project is Chawin Boonpan- who also runs the Unbelievable Black Magic label.Seemingly this is his first wall-noise project,as before this he was trading grindcore and noisecore, as well as running the VCD side of the label. In his connections with the underground noise scene, he came across walled-noise, and it seemed that the obsessively monolithic feel of walled noise perfectly fitted his bleak, grim obsession with mondo and shock film. So he thought he’d create his own, using Japanese shock films as the source for his wall. The CDR just features a single untitled track, and this comes in at the 28.16 mark. The ‘wall’ is a fitting thick, nasty, and crude affair- it brings together three or four layers of noise matter to create a numbing & bleak wall- prefect for the releases theme. It’s built around the following layers: A worming & swirling sludge bound noise drone, A rattling yet crisp sheet of judder, A murky almost industrial churn, and a few sudden sub-tone sways that mine roaring ‘n’ rolling low-end. The whole ‘wall’ feels like ones observing a murky & lumpy sea, as it a slowly shifts in & out over a pale, barren & diseased shoreline. This release was distributed by Dutch label Void Worship, and I’m not overly clear how many copies where made…so it’s one you might need to hunt down. All in all it’s quite a impressive opening shot from both the project & label, and let’s hope there's more to come!. Roger Batty
