Creature With The Atom Brain - Kill The Snake [Conspiracy Records - 2005]Very intriguing and very interesting project, some weird music from Antwerp. The man behind this is not entirely unknown. Firstly, the name. Creature with the Atom Brain is the title of a horror flick from 1955, with a fascinating plot: a Nazi scientist creates robot-like zombies, outing atom brains on their head, which make them strong, real strong
The creatures are used by a gangster to reach power. Secondly, the man. CwtAB is Aldo Struyf. Now, he is not the most famous member of the Belgian indie scene, but he has a rather long resume. He has played with Nemo, Vive la Fete, Golf and even got some dEUS connection. Now he plays with Millionaire, and whenever Mark Lanegan is on European tour, he joins him on keyboard. He in his spare time, Aldo does some DJ set. Voilà. Thirdly (and most important), the music. Its a weird and rather tasty mix of everything, like a compilation made of tracks randomly selected on ten records found in the garbage. You have a very delicate and melodic track that turns midway into a Lightning Bolt song. You have a second track made of a very simple metal riff and kinda polyphonic vocals. You have a third track with laser-like riffing, sounding like two robots fighting for the supremacy on the sonic galaxy. You have a fourth track with a huge distorted guitar sound and some industrial rhythm. You have a fifth track which sounds like your typical boogie rock song. You have a sixth track whit off-kilter casio melody, and a sort of vocal mantra. You have a seventh track that is bloody close to Einstürzende Neubauten with a guitar solo. This is a mess, but all good fun. Looking forward to hear the next thing they put out. This LP is limited to 500 copies. Next up is debut CD. François Monti
