Uitgeschakeld - Still [Altar Od Waste - 2016]Still is one lengthy slice of dense-yet- bleakly contemplative walled-noise craft from Dutch project Uitgeschakeld. The release came in form of CDR on Minneapolis based Altar Of waste. And featured the labels house style clear DVD case- and this time around the doubled–sided cover takes in moody black & white photo’s on vast snow top mountain scapes, and mist enshrouded forest scapes. The releases one & only track comes in at 79.50 mark. And really it’s a truly unforgiving & crushing example of hellishly thick & brutally bass bound walled-noise. The ‘wall’ slams straight into you with zero build-up, fade in, or samples. It opens with an extremely full & tight mix of the follow tones: a sliding ‘n’ muddily grinding low-end jitter, a rapidly sliding gear like mid-range crushing, and a selection of faint industrial rumble ‘n’ churnings tones. As the track progresses we get extremely subtle shifts & additions in the ‘walls’ thick mass, and these take-in: a selection of fairly tightly cascading jittering ‘n’ juddering tones, more blunt & faint churns ’n’ rumbles, sways of thinner rattles & knocks, roaming rips & deep shreds, and a lot latter in proceedings a selection of deeper descending tonal tearinngs. Though throughout the tracks huge length the original blend & structural form remains fairly firm & set in its intent.
All in all Still is another satisfying large-scale wall construction from Uitgeschakeld, who has now shown on more that a few occasions that he really does have the ability to create most compelling long-form HNW work. Certainly if you have a penchant for extremely thick, yet detailed wall-matter Still is worthy of your time, and the nice subtle & mostly rewarding layer shifts keep you locked in through-out it’s hour & a half run-time. Sadly it’s now sold-out from the label- so it’s either searching on discogs, or waiting to see if it gets a reissued. Roger Batty
