Black Ox Orkestar - Nisht Azoy [Constellation - 2006]Black Ox Orkestar make superbly, rousing and haunting Jewish influenced music, which really seems to whisper of a world long past,of hope and loss. Through out the authenticity and quality of the music shrines through. The member’s of the band investigated deeply into Klezmer and eastern European folk music. So you feel, you are witness to something ancient and worldly wise. Going from heated emotional,to heady atmospheric. You can almost taste the passion and the tears in the music. A few of my favourite tracks are: Az vey Dem Tatn with rousing emotional guitar strum and other string instruments added to by passionate muilt layered chanting. You can almost imagine a forceful dance played out, by stern looking men.Golem with it’s richly sombre and romantic air, heavy with burning emotions.Played out by a fine guitar melody, swooned by wonderful cello. With out doubt of interesting of anyone, with an ear for enchanting and atmospheric music. And of course a must for all fans of Jewish music.
