Dictaphone - Vertigo II [City Centre offices - 2006]Dictaphones Vertigo II is an enjoyable mix of inventive electronica with a jazzy air, conjuring up a wonderful cinematic canvas to explore, from some unlikely sound combinations. Prime example of this inventive and surprising use of sound , is The frame. Which utilising as it’s back ground a snooker match and the commentaries voice, along with other crowd noise as a base beat structure to add swirls of hypnotic moody jazziness to, making a haunting and muilt layered track. The samples are really placed with an artist ear, to build atmosphere. The Last song marries eerie bird cheeps and wallabies, with sawing and dragging sounds to wonderfully, haunting and cinematically tones, like watching a shadowy stranger disappear around the Connor of a darkening street. Through out a captivating listening, that repays repeated listens, with new audio details. One for soundtrack fans, Ulver at their more cinematic, or murcof, and those who like there jazz, with an interesting twist.
