Boris - Pink [Southern Lord - 2006]Boris new album Pink is a supped up super charged psychedelic, heads down tribute to 70’s rock, twisting harmonies in to their pumped up rock muscle. In addition displaying some magnificent guitar scape atmospherics. But it’s all has their own identity, stamped on every note. The opener farewell dips down in majestic post rock, sweeping in with great yawning vista's of panoramic guitar work, as the swinging pendulum , droning riff kicks in, and you almost find yourself humming along, as your shot up to the sun and back, in tuneful wonder. The title track is a template of what to expected on the next few tracks, a riffed up beast of a track, again with an damaged hummable quality to it ,and that feeling you want shake you head along to it(almost like been a teenager again). Blackout is prime evil droning doom, like Black Sabbath reborn in outer of space. Really great guitar atmospherics jut off from the slow crawling doom, like comets breaking off a huge black meteorite the size of a small country as it makes it’s way slowly through space, only downside is for me it doesn’t last long enough, it could have gone on for easily another ten minutes. My machine touches down in similar spacey feel, like a Tangerine dream track reborn in slow swirling guitar work , you float blissful along in stars, then just as you getting conformable the finally track slams in. Just abandoned myself is a punked up rock riff-athon , great tuneful vocals sailing from its rough rock throb, and then towards the middle of the track, it slides down into wonderful guitar drone, with an oriental twanging in the back ground. All in all one of the album of this year so far, this is music to enjoy to get lost in, both entertaining and mind expanding. Go on do your self a favour, take a hit of some Pink.
