Helios - Eingya [Type - 2006]Helios second album Eingya offers up eleven heart warming and mellow slices of electronica, met by lush organic instrumentation. Nice enough to take home to meet you mum. The melodies soothing and calming, the beats nicely head nodding. The album has a wonderful summer’s day drifting feel to it or maybe lost in a comforting dream vibe, everything seems to flow so nicely, instrumentation so lush and rewarding. Elegant piano patterns slide by emotive guitar work, beats holding up indie guitar strum and rhythmic keyboard rolls, Chanted voices in from the side, sampled dialogue meshes, all linked in so well. Dragonfly across an ancient sky mixes ‘slow rocking of a boat’ beats, with charming acoustic guitar led melody, you almost feel like you drifting slowly, down a crystal clear river, tree limbs brush past your face, giving you a tranquil warmth. Son of light and darkness embraces you with exquisite piano cords and slow ‘clap your hands’ beats, later on a leisurely acoustic guitar joins in. The track seems to conjure up a myriad of emotions in its softly spoken melodic trail. Halving the compass utilises a ‘tap on the guitar’ beat, along with natural sounds and soothing post rock, like guitar work, maybe bringing to mind a more mellow Sigur ros.The guitar is joined later by pretty piano patter patter. It feels like watching the sun come up over a lush forest, sweet flower perfumes hovering on the lucid air. An album to cherish and revisit when the world seems heavy on your shoulders, perfect music to relax to, not world changing just a nice warming audio land, to get lost in and feel good in.
