Minimum Chips - Lady Grey [Moteer - 2006]Bizarrely enough Minimum chips are from Australia, they seem the most unlike band to come from sunny climes. As the tracks seems to hovering in English suburban air of faded net curtains and peeling wall paper. The tracks plod along in a wonderfully downbeat, trying to be happy maner. 70’s time locked organs rumble along under bassy toped indie, sailed over by charming sing- song female singing. The whole album seems shaded by this wonderful out of time air, songs sweep by with a bitter sweet tone, to be met by another track, as the organ weaves and the bass and guitar drift , pretty light female vocals float, like a lava lamp patterns. It comes across like a collection of faded pictures of a family from the late 70’s, children all tank tops and teethy smiles, the father posing in his nylon flayed suit arm tightly around his wife’s shoulder. No track really stands out it just nicely drifts along, like a rainy Sunday afternoon, both soothing and melancholy. Music to lay in bed with on a nothing going on weekend. Let it lull and sooth your body, with its faded leaf like instrumental colours and quirky downbeat air. Roger Batty
