Hanno Leichtmann - Nuit Du Plomb [Karaoke Kalk - 2006]Nuit Du Plomb is a fine slice of ambient electronic beats scapes, full of wonky melodies and hazy ambient drifts. Original conceived as a soundtrack to a reading of German expressionist writer's Hans Henny Jahnn novlet The Night of Lead, but don’t let this put you off this is not a deep concept album. It’s very approachable and consistent collection of tracks. On offer are eight tracks that go from straight out melodic synthesiser drifts tied to easy beats, to more stretched out and smudged round the edges, eerier sound works. Hardly the most original album, you can hear traces of past ambient electronic artist. But there’s enough of Mr Leichtmann own personality in the sound , his ear for musically - thematic flow and a knack of coming up with memorable melodies, to make this an enjoyable and rewarding trip. I’ll have to say I’ve always had a soft spot for ambient beatscapes, and certainly a good example of how it can be done , very well. One I can see my self returning to again and again and has made me curiosity about Mr Leichtmann’s other work. Roger Batty
