Claudio Parodi - Horizontal mover [Extreme Records - 2006]Horizontal Mover finds classical trained pianist, improviser and sound artist Claudio Parodi playing tribute to American sound artist Alvin Lucier and in particular his piece I am sitting in a room, which was based around recordings of recordings- that are built up untill they make there own drone form. The hour long piece starts with almost vibe like tones and a sawing improvised jazz underbelly and all manner of creaking and bending tones. Harmonics glinting off the corner of sounds, it feels very sleepy and slowed down as if time and places have been bent out of shape. Like your making your way through a nearly slowed to a stop bar room scene, the jazz musicians tone just glimmering, peoples noise and voices streached out into just a few tones. As the piece progresses it becomes more concerned with drone elements as this is all that is left, as the sound is even more striped down, one almost feels if your blind or in deep fog bumping into what could once have been musically form or instrumentation cord patens. Another thing that rather puts you off balance is the odd stereo panning of tones, which makes one feel a little odd by the end of the track. Strangle as well when the track ends, you can still hear the tones ring in your mind for least a minutes or so. A rewarding and sound space changing piece of audio art, which deserved to be played in its entirety, with a clear mind for maximum effect. It can be brought direct from here. Roger Batty
