Franco Micalizzi - Superuomini Superdonne Superbotte OST [Fin de Siècle Media - 2006]Superuomini Superdonne Superbotte or Super Stooges vs. the Wonder Women is presented here for the first time ever. It’s the soundtrack from 1974 cheesy adventure movie based in ancient Greece. The music is a rather happy- go- lucky mix of quirky moogs, jazzy to funked up flared tones, angry electric guitar buzz and all manner of 70’s based sound fun. Franco Micalizzi was one of the more prolific Italian film composers of 1970’s, you can hear certain cross over in sounds to the likes of Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin in his more jazzy moments. But Micalizzi seems to add a real sense of fun and campness to the proceedings. Weather this is because of the film content or all his work was like this is unclear, as this is the first of his soundtrack I’ve knowingly heard . It doesn’t deviate too much from the main theme, but when it does its inventive and atmospheric enough. The main theme is presented with lots of different musically tools from; guitar, to great soothing string work, groovy electronics, pumping-up brass work, weaving haunted female voices-.Giving enough musically variation, to make basically the same tune enjoyable though out the soundtrack. There’s a Quirky almost kids show come circus vibe present on many occasions, as is a more thoughtful and graceful air. Even more doomy investigations with guitar squawks and flutes sad voice, but the fun and florics are never far away. A very enjoyable and fun 70’s soundtrack, which I’m sure, will appeal to all fans of soundtracks and in particular those enjoying more quirky and a little bizarre ones. It certainly made me want to track down more of Franco Micalizzi work. To hear some sound samples and buy direct go here. Roger Batty
