Olion - Soul Provider [HNW Netlabel - 2024]Soul Provider a new three-track release from the Polish Wall Noise project Olion. Each ‘wall’ rolls in at around the ten-minute mark- they move between full ‘n’ roasting, to more stark & bleak washed out. The release appears on Uk’s HNW label- with cover artwork taking in a hazed picture of an animal sitting on a wall, which is either a cat or a fox. The release can be found here
The tracks are simply Roman numeral titled. So up first we have “I” This brings together a constant choppy/ swaying bass tone, with a churning roasting flame texture. The whole thing has a nicely meaty, but slightly ragged/ ripped quilt about it- all making for an appealing & nicely brutalizing ‘wall’.
Next, we have “II” Here we find a more stripped-back blend of hiss roast, drone-sub bass, and slight sub-tone knock. This brought to mind a thick fire jet being fired into a body of water- creating a connection between the searing and the manically blue bubbling.
Finally, we have “III” – this feels like an even more reduced version of the last track-with pared back aquatic knock, steady hiss, and muffled sub-tone gallop. This is ok, but personally, I felt it was a little too close to the second track- so as a result it’s my least favourite of the three tracks here.
Soul Provider is another consistent release from Olion, and will appeal to those who enjoy their wall-craft either thick and roasting or more hiss-bound and pared back.
