Willowbrook / She Walks Crooked / Dosis - Static Wreckage [Ominous Recordings - 2024]Here’s a very aptly titled walled noise collaboration that brings together two dense, impenetrable, and deeply searing examples of the HNW form. Coming as either a C30, or digital release- it appears on Stockholm’s Ominous Recordings. The white/ black mixed-shelled cassette features a label on its white side. It is presented in a matt double-sided sleeve- with white and red texts set against a break drop of amassed static. This cassette version comes in an edition of thirty copies- though sadly these are all sold out, so drop by here to DL the digital version
The three collaborators here are all fairly long-running wall noise ventures- Eugene, Oregon Willowbrook, this has been active since 2012, releasing thirty-plus albums to date. Pittsburgh PA's She Walk Crooked- which has been around since 2013- putting out just over thirty albums. And Serbia’s Dosis Letalis – active since 2015, with coming on for a hundred albums.
So first-up we have “Static Wreckage I”- it slams straight in with an extremely thick and rapid wall- which blends a muddy bass judder, a rattling/ slightly hiss-bound clutter, and shredding static gallop. It feels akin to being tied down to a rattling 'n' knocking ageing industrial tram line- at its nearby end is a huge bowl of slow swirling and bubbling tar, ready to pour first into your ear, then engulf the whole of your head.
Flipping over we find “Static Wreckage II”. Once more it jumps straight in with the weight & depth of noise. This time around we find a blend of mid-paced shredding low-end, clamouring ‘n’ grinding static grain roll, and possible/ distant knock. This track feels like you are been rolled over by a truly huge stream roller- with each new roll run, a limb is snapped off from your flattered & compressed form.
Static Wreckage will be enjoyed by those who want to get well buried in dense & unforgiving HNW. There’s nothing subtle or nuanced here- just blunt brain-grinding noise!. Roger Batty
