Fail - Dated 11 [Inner Demons Records - 2024]Dated 11 is a two-track/3-inch CDR from US noise project Fail. The tracks move between textured noise, jarring noise flows, and muffled ambient drifts. Fail (aka Florida Dan Fox) has been active since 2017- with Discogs claiming it has just nineteen releases, though I’m sure in reality that it's doubled/triple that number- as it’s Dan’s main project, which he uses to release/help his mental health issues.
The first track here “080919” is the longest of the two tracks running at just shy of the thirteen-minute mark. It opens with just steady/ spaced electro-bass prods- but as it unfolds we get a shifting sonic map to textural crumble 'n' drag, feedback purr, jarring noise tone sear, galloping clutter, fan belt-like judder, etc. There is a good feeling of both flow and decent noise composition here- meaning it retains your attention throughout.
The second track here “080830” comes in at just under the six-minute mark. It’s a blend of low to mid-ranged hazed ambience, and lightly searing/ at points almost harmonic high-end tone dance/ shift. This is a more atmospheric-focused track than the first, though there is still tension/ edge here- which nicely builds as we progress,
Dated 11 features two eventful examples of US noisemaking- which will be enjoyed by those who like things somewhere between textured noise, jarring harsh noise, and hazed/ unconfinable ambience. To buy direct drop by here Roger Batty
