ELEKTR0BATH/ Olion - Holy Terror [Mima Kass - 2025]Holy Terror is a short wall noise split bringing together two Polish projects-Warsaw’s ELEKTR0BATH, and Olsztyn’s Olion. Both parties offer up a brutal and truly unforgiving shot of wall-craft. The release appears on Sweden’s Mima Kass- as either a C10 or digital download- I’m reviewing the latter of these. Cover artwork-wise, we get a drawing of lines of bird-like to ghoulish human faces. The release can be found here
Each project offers up a single five-minute track, and first up we have ELEKTR0BATH’s offering. It’s been a year or so since I’ve heard any of this project's work, and I must say the track featured here, “Horror” is one of the better things I’ve heard from them. It’s a fairly simple yet effective ‘wall’ based around a blend of set drilling drone, a juddering mid, and piecing set high tone. It feels akin to having your teeth drilled, as a rock landslide occurs above you- the drone & mid hold you in, while the high seems to drill deep into your head.
Next, we have Olion, who has been fairly active over the last year or so, and I’ve enjoyed all I’ve heard. Their track “Terror” is no exception. It’s a slightly looser/ shambling, though no less brutal ‘wall’- bringing together a low to mid-range selection of choppy & juddering tones, blended in with a thinner, more sand-bound rattle. The track feels akin to rolling down a dry & dusty hillside in a round cardboard box.
So Holy Terror is a short, if no less effective split- I could have certainly listened to both tracks here for at least another twenty/ thirty minutes, but it’s fine as a brutal shot of walling. Roger Batty
