Government Alpha - Impure Drought [Steinklang International - 0000]Impure Drought is a textured and complex sound torture cut into six screaming whirlwind, psychedelic fired sound eruptions of high level noise craft. The thing that sets Government Alpha (aka Yasutoshi Yoshida) apart from the majority of other noise artists and sends him racing up into the upper level of noise artistry is the pure amount of sonic depth, clever sound twist and turn’s and the ability to shape chaos into something both searing, atmospheric, and darkly/ violently beautiful and very feeling in places. The first track Psychotoxic Glint opens with a looped harmonic noise roar, before slowly been over taken by dread-filled noise atmospherics, then jumps into tidal waves of sound crash against you again and again with rhythmic elements just surviving at each revolution. The rest of the track nicely seesaws between searing and almost musical with very effective atmospheric detail. Amaryllis feels like the eye of a storm capture and harvested for all it’s eerier-ness and velocity pulling wonder, as he sucks out long strands of noise breath’s- before submerge it’s self in bassy noise bubbles. Incendive Larks starts of bending alarm and feedback tones together, before delving into some low down doomy and nasty sounding almost guitar like chainsaw attacks and waving sound fields, then driving into noise meets overloaded gamelan battering. The disk comes in a nice full colour disturbing/clever collage sleeve by Yasutoshi Yoshida himself, which for some bizarre & sad reason is only ltd 77 copies which in it self a real shame as more than 77 people need to hear this wonderful brutal, multi -headed noise attack.
