Worship/GODnoiseGOD - Split [Imploding Sounds - 2022]Here’s a wall noise split featuring four slices of tickly droning ‘n’ weightily numbing HNW. The split brings together Worship, who are decidedly mysterious- with no hint of where in the world they are from, and Kansas City, Missouri based GODnoiseGOD. The split appears as a digital download on Seattle based Imploding Sounds. The cover artwork is of a darkly glum oil painting of a nude Eve, with a snake wrapped around her torso. The release has a total runtime of one hour- with each project offering up two tracks apice.
So the two projects here are Worship- and as mentioned in my intro there is no info on them. They have a bandcamp with seven releases including this one- each of these has been released in the last month or so, and each features nude, moody and often black ‘n’ white female photo shots. The second project is GODnoiseGOD from Missouri- once again they have a bandcamp- this takes in eight releases, with the first one listed being a two-hour release from January this year….so seemingly both are fairly new ventures, which is great to see.
Each of the four tracks hit near/ around the fourteen-minute mark. And first up we have “Banished” by Worship - here we find a locked down blend of this throbbing-sort-of droning low end, a sightly rumble bound static grained judder, and a low key/ ominous billow. Together these elements create a densely encasing wall, which has a nice shadowy brooding undercurrent running through its sonic marrow. Next, we have “And If You Gaze Long Enough Into The Abyss..” by GODnoiseGOD- here we find a slightly on ‘n’ off machine-like drone hum, which is fed over by a rush ‘n’ searing mid-range static scaled. After the ominous press of the first track, this a nicely nasty contrast- with its thick flaming liquid-like rush.
Track number three is “Nightbird” which is from Worship- and here we find a rapidly bay ‘n’ buffeting low-end churn, which is been brutalised by a lock mid-ranged chopping tone. This ‘wall’ has a more urgent, yet still decidedly ominous and oppressive feel to its attack- and once again I’m getting quite a set industrial feeling to both elements here. Lastly, we have “The Abyss Will Gaze Back Into You” the second GODnoiseGOD track. Here we find a mixture of muffled slightly uneven tumble ‘n’ churn, topped with a rushing & roasting thick spurting texture. Again this is a nice more nasty contrast after the oppressive industrial churn & hover of the previous track.
In finishing it’s always nice to see new projects stepping into the walled noise scene- and both GODnoiseGOD and Worship have their own take on the HNW form, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see how their sounds develop down the line. To check out this for yourself drop by here Roger Batty
