T. Gowdy - Trill Scan [Constellation - 2025]Trill Scan offers up an eleven-track journey into hazed techno beats, murkily pulsing synth tones/electronics, and atmospheric instrumental/ vocal tone sampling. It’s the seventh album from Montreal, Canada-based music producer and musician T. Gowdy. Mr Gowdy has been sonically active since 2018, releasing work on labels like of Liberation Through Hearing, Birdsounz, Shimmering Moods Records, TBD Tapes, and Constellation, which has released this album as either a CD, or vinyl release- I’m reviewing the former.
The eleven-track album goes from the pulse key locks, distant bass purr, and choppy/ blurring beats of “Richmond Rd”. Onto “Anonymous V” with its cluttering ‘n’ shuffling tones, steady stabbing bass, and warbling female choral vocals. Though to the plucking 'n' atmospheric clean guitar tones, mood synth toning, and glum male sing-song vocals of “Novus Lumen”.
As the album winds down, we move from the tight tip-tapping beats, taut synth tone sweeps ‘n’ stabs, and building techno pump of “Arislei Bone”. Onto the medieval female choral chanting, pulsing electro tone weaves, hissing ‘n’ pumping percussion, and low-key chanting male vocals of “Strewn”.
As an album, Trill Scan serves up a creative blend of beats, galloping electronic tones, and atmospheric sampling. Roger Batty
