Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical - Alice in Wonderland(DVD) [Impulse Pictures - 2024]From the mid 70’s here we have an adult take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland. It’s a blend of musical, hard-core sex romp, and often bawdry comedy- with twenty-something virgin librarian Alice following the rabbit into a sleazed-out Wonderland. Here from Impulse Pictures is a barebones region free DVD release of the film. Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy ( aka Alice In Wonderland, Alice in Wonderland: A Musical Porno) is a US production from 1976. It was directed by Bud Townsend- who between the late 60’s and early 80’s, had six features to his name. These went from wax museum-based horror Nightmare In Wax (1969), onto dark comedy-laced proto-slasher Terror At Red Wolf Inn(1972), onto sports comedy Coach (1978), and softcore drama Love Scenes (1984).
We open by meeting Alice- played by playboy model turned actress Kristine DeBell( Meatballs, Lifepod, Trophy Heads). She’s a prim & proper librarian dressed in a blue dress- and is putting books away in a small and deserted library. When in bursts an older looking male machinic- who is keen to get it on with Alice- she pushes away his advances- with him leaving soon after.
She sits back down carrying on with a job- when she comes across Lewis Carroll’s book- and sings a song about being more adventurous. All of a sudden up pops the white rabbit(Larry Gelman)- he’s a lamb-chopped, bespeckled middle-aged man with white face paint & wrap-around ears. He says he’s late & must be going- then promptly disappears through the library wall with a sparkle- Alice follows finding herself in a room with a small dog- there’s a big door- which is locked and an open tinny door- she’s of course too large for the smaller door- she drinks from the small bottle next to the dog, and she shrinks- before heading out into the green forest wonderland.
Next, she falls into a river- and gets rescued by a man turtle, before getting licked dry by him & a couple of cat women- this is fairly tame. We only click into the hardcore side of things when she sits down on a ‘talking rock’ and starts pleasuring herself. Before meeting the Madhatter(Alan Novak)- she comments on a card that she thinks is his hat size, and of course, it’s the size of something else he drops his draws & she gets a sucking.
As things move on she meets Humpty Dumpty ( Bucky Sears) who has fallen off the wall and can’t get his member up, she meets Tweedledum & Tweedledee who are basically a bonking all-the-time male & female couple. Before heading towards the court of the well-hung black king- where things go decidedly hardcore bound- with female on male action, female on female including Alice going down on the belligerent, stocking & suspenders, and larger breasted Queen Of Hearts(Juliet Graham).
The musical side of things pops up ever so often- and to be honest they are fairly standard songs, with not much smut about them aside from the odd innuendo. I’m not the biggest fan of musicals- so thankful this side isn’t too overloaded. And I’d say the most effective/ amusing of the songs happens during the Humpty Dumpty scene- regarding getting you Ding-a-ling up.
As a lead DeBell is ok in her role- with a fairly standard proportioned blond-haired body- the rest of the cast hams it up well enough, with not all of them taking part in the hardcore action- but all of the ‘adult’ actors are of a fairly standard slim and trim variety. The balance between story flow & fleshy side is kept fairly even- so it can be watched in a formal film manner, instead of just a coupled-together hardcore set-ups.
All in all, Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy is a good enough adult take on this classic tripped-out fantasy- with touches of humour, and a selection of fairly run-of-the-mill musical fare.
The scan looks good & bright- with little or no damage. And really this is a true barebones affair- as we don’t even get a menu, let alone a trailer or trailer reel- the film just literally just starts off as soon as you slip the disc in.
If you're looking for a fleshy, 1970s-bound, and musical-tipped take on Alice In Wonderland this will certainly appeal. I have seen better porn parodies/ takes on classic stories, though equally, I’ve seen a lot worse too. Roger Batty
