Kuusumun Profeetta - Hymyilevien laivojen satama [Ektro Records - 2006]Hymyilevien laivojen satama appears on Circles Ektro label so you know you not in for an easy or simply one genre musically ride. I guess it’s a cross between prog, jazz rock, strange stage musically, 70’s theatrical rock, soundtrack elements. With side steps into coral music, avant classical, and strange theatrical monitions .It’s all toped with very distinctive vocals in Finnish mother tongue which again gives their sound an interesting & different feel. It all makes for a very different and plainly odd album, that on first few plays I found too odd, but with all great strange music it grows it’s tentacles in your mind and becomes well almost normal. But even after several plays the odd turns still surprise, but it’s never done in a jump cut manner, it just sort of drifts into the strange moments in a almost too awake dream time, like this is happing but you cant quite belive it. Stand out moments in the madness would be; Mies muistoja varten - where theatrical jazz/rock meets swells of doomy avant classical tones, or Tunnit muuttuu minuuteiksi which starts off with jazzy air via 'gallop along the plains' electro country guitar work, before going into some very nice jammed out funky jazzy moves mid-way before jumping off into sawing orchestrated modern classical discord. Really if you want an album were really anything can and will happen, this is the one. A really adventure in every sense, so if your willing and able to expand your mind into Kuusumun Profeetta strange musically world, your in for one hell of an odd ride- To find out more and buy direct pop along to Ektro here.
