Bexar Bexar - Tropism [Own Records - 2007]The music found on Tropism, Bexar Bexar's second outing, reflects the burning plains of its homebase Austin, Texas. It's not specifically American though, no country, western or americana, but just the sense that it's hot outside. The ten tracks consist of crackles, hisses and buzzes, sometimes electronic and sometimes more organic. Generally the music is dominated by soft, romantic guitarstrummings. The mood stays quite consistent and gentle and it will take you comfortably afloat to the other side of the album. In a slightly disrespectful way you could say this this is some sort of "Fennesz for lovers", but I don't mean that critique. It's not necessarily a bad thing to have modern music without disturbing, grating noises to ruin the pleasant thoughts this album provokes. Tropism is modern in the sense of how it's made, because I would say the mood is quite nostalgic, without pointing in a specific direction.Tropism is the perfect soundtrack to sit down with a glass of wine at the close of a hot day. Maybe a tad too much of a background noise to be a stunning album, but comfortable and pleasant all the way through.
