Starving Weirdos - Summon With Electric Sorcery [bottrop-boy - 2008]Summon with electric Sorcery finds the Starving weirdos returning with some of their darkest, unnevering and brain altering material so far. It finds them Moving on and developing their sound, but still keeping the air and sonic taste that makes them one of the most original and unclassifiable projects around today. Opening up the album we have Summon which to starts sounding fairly safe, normal with guitar based sinister atmospherics, but soon develops into a muilt layered hazy sonic narcotic nightmare- with different layers of guitar coldness and dread, strings picking and feedback ect drifting in and around you, all with that Starving Weirdos 3D like production. Some of the most alarming and unnerving moments come with the track In Transit which starts with strange all around you percussion work-out, possible sawing violin and this cracking/guitar noisy type sound which keeps darting out of the mix to freak you out. As the track progress to midway point the percussion is brought down and your surrounded by layers of distant voices and sawing swirling feedback wines like strange bent ghost calls. This really does put you knee-deep in paranoid & scared shit-less territory as they just seem to build and build the uneasy to such a fever pitch you’ll be twitching in you chair, going out to check if the front doors locked or any windows have been left open. Another highly rewarding chapter in their prolific discography and an step forward in to new nightmarish territory by the weirdos. This is the true sound of terror, doubt and paranoia – just don’t risk indulging with-it while in an narcotic altered state as it could well push you into a padded cell. Roger Batty
