Steriogram - This is Not the Target Market [Short Stack Records - 2007]I apologise for the brevity of this review, but rather than bore you with a long winded attack on something which I consider to be a part of the problem with music versus an antidote for drone-ish conformity, I will go straight to the heart of the matter. This is not the Target Market is a title that would lead one to believe that Steriogram are a band attempting to defy conventions, but unfortunately that could not be further from the truth. This self-produced album employs practically every style of music which has gained in popularity in the last ten or fifteen years or so. There's plenty of Kid Rock-influenced rap-metal, pop-punk, post-Nirvana grunge rock, and zero originality. Even more disturbing is the fact that the band is competent and polished, and have a decent chance of adding to an already execrable popular music scene. There are a couple of good things to say about the album; for a self-produced album, it sounds very professional. These guys can play, they are energetic, and no how to ape their peers with great abandon. They're very good at playing music that is remarkably generic and devoid of character. Erwin Michelfelder
